Social gatherings and taking offense

Do you know this about me? That I’m not really one for social gatherings? I sense the emotions of the people around me and am therefore aware of the vibes… all the unspoken tensions and negative feelings circling around, in addition to the usual inevitable misunderstandings and offending and offended personalities.

After the December period of inescapable social gatherings, I read an interesting thing in Lou Marinoff’s “The Big Question”:

Someone can’t give (you) offense unless you TAKE offense.
Someone who is offended plays an active role in being offended.
YOU decide whether you accept the insult or not.
You cannot be offended without your own consent.

May you choose to NOT take offence during 2012!
